FAQs

Q: Will it clog my pores?

No. Tallow ranks just 2 out of 5 on the comedogenic scale, meaning it is unlikely to clog pores for most people. Its fatty acid profile so closely mirrors your skin's own sebum that your skin absorbs it rather than letting it sit on the surface. We also include jojoba oil, which is non-comedogenic and helps balance your skin's natural oil production. If you have very acne-prone skin, we recommend patch testing on a small area first.

Q: Does it smell like beef?

Fair question — and yes, many tallow products do have a noticeable beefy smell. Ours doesn't. Our tallow is carefully rendered and purified to remove any animal odor before we ever add anything else. What you're left with is the warm, subtle blend of ylang ylang, grapefruit, and cedarwood from our pure essential oils — floral, citrus, and gently grounding. Customers who were bracing for the worst have been pleasantly surprised every time.

Q: Is it safe for kids and sensitive skin?

Yes for kids, with one note. Good Tallow is made with pure essential oils which are gentle and non-synthetic, but we recommend avoiding use on newborns under 3 months. For children and adults with sensitive skin it is an excellent choice — no synthetic fragrance, no parabens, no petroleum derivatives, nothing your skin doesn't recognize. Many of our customers first tried it specifically for their children's eczema and dry skin and came back for themselves.

Q: What's the difference between grass-fed and grass-finished?

Grass-fed means the animal ate grass at some point in its life. Grass-finished means it ate grass its entire life — right up until harvest, with no grain finishing period. This distinction matters because grain finishing changes the fatty acid profile of the tallow, reducing the omega-3s and fat-soluble vitamins that make it so beneficial for skin. Our tallow is both grass-fed and grass-finished, sourced from American cattle raised on pasture their entire lives.

Q: How long does one jar last?

A 3 oz jar typically lasts 4 to 8 weeks with daily use depending on how much you apply and how many areas you cover. Because tallow is so concentrated and absorbs so efficiently, you need far less than you would with a conventional lotion. Most customers are surprised by how long it lasts. Start with a pea-sized amount — you can always add more.

Q: What is your return policy?

We stand behind every jar. If you are not satisfied for any reason, contact us within 30 days of your purchase for a full refund. No hoops to jump through, no restocking fees. You can reach us at the Contact page and we respond within 24 hours.

Q: Where is Good Tallow made?

Good Tallow is made in small batches in the USA using 100% American grass-fed, grass-finished beef tallow. We will never swap a quality ingredient for a cheaper alternative, never add a filler to cut costs, and never formulate something we wouldn't use ourselves. Every product we make — now and in the future — is built on that same non-negotiable.
